How to Make (and Keep) a New Year's Resolution with Adidas!

Let’s make it a fabulous year….

We all know that half of all resolutions fail. So, with the help of my adidas family, we’ll be creating a plan on how to create resolutions that are going to help us improve our lives in 2020. I’ve created 5 easy steps to help you with your 2020 resolutions. Let’s get right into it!

1. Be Specific with your goals

The more specific the goals, the better. For example; in lieu of writing “I want a new car”. Write down what the actual make and model is. Such as “I want a Range Rover Sport 2020”. Even better, you can go one step further and write specific intentions, actions, and activities. Simply put, break down each one of your goals into the smallest possible goals you can. It’ll make it easier to figure out the daily behaviors necessary to make the big goals achievable.

2. Make it Achievable

It’s easy to get excited about your goals at the beginning of the year. Even the whole month of January running on the fuel of “happy new year”. However, most people start burning out by February. The ONLY way to make sure this doesn’t happen is to set goals that are attainable in 365 days or less. Not to say, you shouldn’t reach for their sky. However, if you set goals that aren’t attainable, it’ll erode your self-esteem rather quickly and we are back at square one.

3. Write down your goals

New goals require a new set of habits, rituals, and beliefs. And of course, the best way to start doing this is to write all your goals/resolutions down. You want to make them crystal clear what they are ON PAPER! It makes your goals much more tangible and real to you. I don’t believe in IPads, laptops nor writing your goals on your phone. There is something exceptional and more spiritual if written in your journal. Under each goal, write down the plan of action to achieve each goal. Writing down why these goals are valuable to you would be important in motivating you each time you think about quitting.

4. Check-in with yourself

Forget perfection. ‘Remember, slow and steady wins the race’. We want goals that are sustainable in the long run. The only way to do this is to take care of yourself through this process. Believe it or not, self-care is integral to a successful life. A healthy goal requires self-kindness. Which means through all the ambition, pause every now and again.

5. Celebrate small successes

Celebrating yourself through your list is imperative. You don’t need to get to the end of your list to celebrate your wins. Pausing to acknowledge your wins serves as a pat on the back that inadvertently encourages you to keep going. Progress isn’t a straight line. There are many ebbs and flows but as long as you don’t give up on yourself and you get back up with such vigor each time, you’ll eventually get to the finish line.

Remember, it’s okay to slip up every now and again. What truly matters is how you handle it and keep pushing forward. I’ll leave you with this quote by Mr. Henry Ford 'Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you're right.’ Believe in yourself wholeheartedly and bet on yourself that you can make your resolutions come true! More importantly, give thanks for all that you do, knowing with certainty that you are the creator of all your achievements. Incredibly grateful to my adidas family for sponsoring this article.

I am wearing an adidas bodysuit and adidas shoes.

I believe in you all, #SBfamily and I pray, you always believe in yourself. Happy New year!
