7 Beauty Products for Sensitive Skin Types

Team SB Approved!

Happy Fri-yay from your favorite #skinfluencer! If you are following me, you know that it seemed I just woke up one day and I had developed an allergy to EVERYTHING! After months of constantly getting an acne-like rash every time a new product touched my skin, even my foundation that I used to wear daily, I finally ran to a dermatologist. I was diagnosed with Contact Irritant Dermatitis which is a skin rash that happens within seconds of my face  coming in contact with anything that it essentially doesn’t like. The good thing about it as soon as I remove the irritant substance and take a Benadryl, it disappears. However, it is persistent and transferable to every part of the face. To say the last few months has been torturous would be an understatement. I’ve spent the last few months researching the best products for my new-normal and here is a detailed list for all you folks with sensitive skin like myself: Just click on the name to buy the product.

I use the lapis oil and have been for the past year and I absolutely love it. One bottle will last that long but they recommend disposing it after a year because it will lose its potency. It’s the perfect oil for sensitive skin because it won’t break you out. It reduces a little bit of redness I always have from the inflammation from the rash and aids even out my hyperpigmentation. This is the perfect oil to keep acne and flare-ups at bay.

This cream was developed with dermatologists. Since my skin gets VERY dry after each treatment, a dermatologist recommended this to me. I purchased the large tub (16 oz.) and saw results-- smoother, hydrated, even "dewey" skin-- within 2-3 days of applying the cream all over immediately. It is unscented, thick, non-irritating, and does not clog my pores. The best part? It also contains hyaluronic acid to help retain skin’s natural moisture.

This moisturizer was created for the hyper-sensitive skin. It is amazing for quickly calming flare-ups of visible redness and irritation. Packed full of antioxidants and Omegas 3, 6, 7 & 9, this light silky cream leaves skin hydrated and looking beautifully healthy. This cream is quite rich and moisturizing without being greasy, and smells great. You only need 1-2 pumps each time you use it. I understand the price is a bit steep but its worth it.

If you have acne-prone skin that is also sensitive, you need to check out this gentle cleansing soap by Dove. Can’t go wrong with a classic.  Every Dove product truly cares for your skin, but this one in particular was created for us folks with sensitive skin. It contains lauric acid, which is effective in eliminating acne-causing bacteria.  It is Hypoallergenic and also fragrance-free which are both a MUST in treating sensitive skin.

Picking the right sunscreen for sensitive skin is such a challenge! Merely checking the SPF is certainly not enough – you need to be cautious of the ingredients in the particular SPF. Most sunscreens contain chemical ingredients to block UV rays, and any of the ingredients can irritate your skin, which was one of the culprit in my case. Fortunately, this particular sunscreen from La Roche-Posay caters to those who have sensitive skin like myself. This sunscreen doesn’t feel sticky on your skin and is VERY ideal for sensitive and acne-prone skin. It contains avobenzone, which is an FDA-approved chemical for protecting the skin from UVA rays. It is allergy tested, fragrance free and paraben-free as well.

Since foundation was what triggered this whole mess I am in, this one has been the hardest to find the right one. Finding the perfect foundation for my now sensitive skin has been tricky. It got even more complicated when I switched to hypoallergenic and it broke me out just as bad if not worse. In my research, I realized, there are an abundance of formulas out there designed to protect your skin if it’s prone to redness, breakouts, and irritation. However, so far, Clinique Anti-blemish foundation is the only one that works for me while I get to the bottom of this issue. Clinique foundation contains medicated ingredients that help treat existing breakouts and keep them from coming back. Its formula is non-irritating and helps blur out blemishes and neutralize redness. It blends easily and provides sheer to moderate coverage.

Cover FX is undefeated lately! They have been bringing it in the makeup game lately, and this particular prime is incomparable on the market for sensitive skin. It contains Salicylic Acid which prevents and heals blemishes and tree bark reduces the size of pores. This primer makes my face feels instantly smooth and provides a nice base for foundation. The only negative concern I have  of this product is that the smell is quite medicinal and intense, but hey, if it does the job right?

As always, thank you so much for reading!  And thank you for being on this journey with me! Talk to you soon!
