By now, we all know skincare is important. However, we’re all used to diligently slathering moisturizers, serums, and sunscreens on our faces, but there’s one significant area most of us neglect and that is the neck. This delicate skin is the fastest way to tell a woman’s age apart from the hands. After the age of 30, the signs can include wrinkling, sagging, sun damage and the awful tech neck, which is my biggest area of concern since I work on a computer all day. So, today I employed my lovely family at NuFACE to help contribute to writing this article since they single-handedly own the holy-grail tool in reducing wrinkles and fine lines. Tera Peterson of NuFACE gave me the royal treatment by giving me a facial in the comfort of my own home, whilst answering all my questions about preventing neck wrinkles.
1. Limit your exposure to sunlight to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays.
Also, limit skin exposure to cigarette and other smokes. Sunscreen DO work! You need to be applying sunscreen on a daily basis down to your neck and décolleté area. You may ask, how about the days I am not leaving the house. The answer is still the same. Apply sunscreen as frequent as possible and make it a habit. The neck area is much more susceptible to damages from sun exposure because of how thin the skin there is. Thus, why you see faster aging there than your face. Sunscreen! Sunscreen! Sunscreen!
2. Stop wearing perfume on your neck
Especially one with fragrance. The skin on the neck is so fragile that it gets irritated easily which in turn accelerates the aging of the neck. Slow down on the perfumes and you’ll start slowing down the aging process very effectively on your neck area. Remember, perfumes are so aggressive that it undermines the skin’s ability to protect itself against UV damage. Simply spray on your wrist or on your clothes instead.
3. Keep your chin up/Use Silk Pillowcases
Always keep your head straight and your chin up during the day. A tech neck is a real thing. Overuse of our technology is a fast gateway to aging skin. Most of my wrinkles came from working on my laptop for at least 8 hours of the day. How about at night you ask? Silk pillowcases! It’ll change your life. My sister recommended the slip pillowcases to me and it has truly made a difference. Swapping cotton for silk pillowcases would result in brighter skin and preventing wrinkles. Keep the angle between the face and neck to the maximum.
4. Apply a good anti-wrinkle cream on your neck during the nights before you sleep
You should always be applying your facial creams on your neck if you don't have a separate neck cream. However, if you wanted something specific for your neck; A good one for the neck area is the Mario Badescu Vitamin A-D-E Neck Cream. The Vitamin A-D-E Neck Cream is formulated to help hydrate and firm the neck and décolletage. I’ve seen a huge difference in firming and refining my skin texture.
5. Use your Nuface Device
This is truly a neck lift in a device. Micro-current is the technology utilized in all NuFACE devices. It is a low-level, soothing current that mimics the body’s natural current, sending gentle waves through the skin and tissues to stimulate muscles. It’s like exercise for the face and especially the neck. I’ve owned one of these devices such a long time but apparently, I was doing it wrong the whole time. I’ve always felt a bit of discomfort when using my device but that’s because I was using Aloe Vera in lieu of the Nuface hydrating gel that accompanies the device. The gel is optimal for skin conductivity but also provides additional moisturization benefits of its own. My Nuface aesthetician explained to me that because micro-current works sub-sensory, most users feel nothing at all. Like with your face, for the neck…. prevention, treatment, and maintenance are the keys to achieving youthful, refreshed skin. My neck lost at least 3 years immediately after my NuFACE Microcurrent Neck Treatment.
